CALTROP Communications was selected by Caltrans to provide public outreach services during a Capital Preventive Maintenance (CAPM) project on SR-1 Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) from Goldenwest Street to Warner Avenue in the City of Huntington Beach. Elements of the $4.57 million project included: replacing existing pavement with new rubberized asphalt concrete on lanes and shoulders in the project area, upgrading the roadside signs, building new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access ramps at various locations, and replacing the existing metal beam guard rail with terminal systems.
During repaving activities on PCH, one stationary lane in each direction was scheduled to be closed, impacting both motorists and cyclists traveling through the construction area. The CALTROP Team was hired to produce a project fact sheet to outline the project, its benefits, and timeline and provided direct contact information. Ads were also created to run in several local papers to educate the communities and visitors of Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and Sunset Beach about the project and potential impacts. CALTROP provided direct outreach via “meet and greets” with key stakeholders, who included key city staff, local emergency service providers, state / city beaches and parks departments, downtown business associations, nearby homeowner associations and cyclist groups.
