I-5 Gateway Project Public Awareness Campaign

The I-5 Gateway project was the final leg of the I-5 corridor that was widened through Orange County thanks to Measure M, the County’s half cent sales tax. This high profile project covered two miles north of SR-91 to the Artesia undercrossing at the Los Angeles County line. Extensive outreach efforts were essential to keeping residents, businesses and the traveling public informed about the general scope of the project, construction closures and detours, and the project’s progress. The public awareness plan had three fundamental components:

  • Notifying impacted residents and businesses of potential construction disruptions and offering solutions
  • Building rapport and fostering goodwill in the community
  • Allowing the construction management staff to concentrate on resolving technical issues on the project, while CALTROP Communications provided staff support to OCTA that was charged with developing and implementing a comprehensive public awareness campaign that engaged and informed the impacted communities during construction project implementation.
